Child safety scissors
Small white paper plates (You'd need 2)
Kitchen sponge
Black tempera paint
Black and red marker
Paper fasteners (ensure you're being supervised by an adult!)
White craft glue
Wiggly eyes
What You Do:
- Cut off the rim of the first paper plate. From the rim scraps, cut out the cat's ears, paws and tail. Use the centre of the plate for the cat's head.
- Dip the sponge into the black paint, and press onto the cat's ears, paws, tail, and head, and the entire second plate. Allow to dry.
- Use the black marker to draw the cat's whiskers and claws, and to outline the head, tail, eyes, ears, and body. Use the red marker for the cat's mouth and nose.
- Ask a grown-up to poke a hole through the whole paper plate and tail. Attach the tail with a paper fastener. Glue on the cat's face, paws, ears, and wiggly eyes. Now, move the tail back and forth.
Dramatic Play:
Pretend you're a cat. Crouch in the centre of your room and close your eyes. What senses can you use to help you "see"? Describe the smell of things in the room. What can you learn by touching things? Can you carefully find your way around the room, using your outstretching arms and hands?
